Entering its fifth generation, Kawasaki’s Ninja 1100SX sport-tourer gains another 100cc and extra low and midrange urge for improved long distance travel. There’s also a new SE model with high-end Brembo and Ohlins components.
Its combination of sport performance and aggressive Ninja appearance with a relaxed riding position are all part of this sport- tourer’s enhanced package.
Extra grunt
An engine displacement increase improves real-world performance. Meantime, an optimised quickshifter, and a new handlebar-mounted USB Type-C outlet enhance touring and everyday utility.
There’s also a new SE model that features Brembo brakes and Öhlins rear suspension.
Based on the Ninja 1000SX’s proven engine, the new Ninja 1100SX mill displaces 1099cc and delivers 115Nm of torque. The added displacement is readily apparent in extra low-end and mid-rev punch. Taller gearing also improves fuel efficiency.
The dual-direction Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS) offers smoother shifting and operates from a lower minimum engine speed. It is now said to work better when riding at urban speeds.
Optimised chassis
Underpinned by an aluminium frame, an inverted front fork and horizontal back-link rear suspension, the 1100SX also features a supersport-style brake package. It comes standard with an IMU that facilitates corner braking control and cornering TC.
With a rigid aluminium frame and mass centralisation, the Ninja 1100SX’s strengths are composed handling and straight-line stability. A planted feeling in corners helps make long-distance travel more relaxing.
On the SE model, dual Brembo front brake discs slowed by Brembo M4.32 calipers are activated by a Brembo master cylinder that acts through steel-braided brake lines.
An Öhlins S46 shock absorber at the rear is said to provide a plush feel and full adjustability.
Standard features optimised for touring include Electronic Cruise Control, an integrated accessory pannier system, a relaxed riding triangle, and aerodynamic fairings. Weighted handlebars evidently reduce vibrations felt by the rider.
