It seems that all good things truly do come to an end because, after 18 years in production, the last Audi R8 V10 has rolled off the production line.
The final car was produced at the Böllinger Höfe in Germany where it was finished in a vibrant ‘Vegas Yellow’ body colour, further emphasised by a carbon fibre pack, as well as 20-inch bronze and silver wheels.
As per usual, this R8 features a mid-mounted 5.2-litre ten-cylinder, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and an all-wheel drive system.
For those wondering, the final example won’t be going to a customer, but instead join Audi Tradition’s collection where it’ll be left in “very good hands”.
The R8 began life in 2006 with a 4.2-litre V8 before the 5.2-litre V10 was offered at a later date. In 2015, the second-generation model was revealed solely with a V10 and underwent several changes throughout its life, such as a facelift in 2018.
Production of the model was originally meant to end last year but increased demand saw it be pushed out to this month.
Several reports suggest that a fully electric replacement for the R8 is in the works, but this has yet to be announced by Audi.
As you may know, the Audi R8 shares the same platform and engine as the Lamborghini Huracan under the Volkswagen Group umbrella, with the latter model also set to be discontinued later this year.
Unlike Audi, the Italian firm plans to replace the Huracan with a new car which we’re led to believe features a twin-turbocharged V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain.
