Ford New Zealand has recently recalled the Escape SUV after it was found the glass roof could ‘detach’ while driving.
The recall, issued on 27 February 2023, only affects model year 2021 Escapes which have been fitted with a panoramic sunroof.
“A number of roof frames were inadvertently exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light prior to assembly causing the roof frame coating to be damaged and failure of the glass panel adhesive primer,” the recall states on Waka Kotahi’s Safety Recalls Database.
It was also stated that alongside the fixed glass roof panel, the front panel could also detach while driving, causing a hazard to other road users.
Ford New Zealand will inform owners of affected models to present their vehicle to their nearest dealership for inspection.
