Following the electrifying success of the Ford Supervan 4.2 at the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb last year, the American carmaker has decided it wants to have another go. Only this time it’s going to use a highly modified F-150 Lightning.
The covers have yet to come off the new hill climb competitor, but judging by its widened silhouette and what looks to be a gigantic wing at the back, this thing is going to be a flyer.
Nothing has been confirmed as far as technical specifications go either, but we expect it to share electric components with its rather quick Transit van counterpart. With that being said, expect a tri-motor drivetrain underneath making somewhere in the realms of over 1000kW.
The F-150 Lightning will undoubtedly want to get a leg up on the record-setting Transit at this year’s running of the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb, but it’ll be a tall order considering the SuperVan 4.2 set a new class record and came second overall.
Closer to home, Ford recently set a new lap record at Bathurst with the SuperVan 4.2 with a time of 1:56.325, beating the likes of Mercedes-AMG. Not only did the Transit become the fastest closed-wheel vehicle to lap the mountain, but also the quickest electric vehicle and commercial vehicle.
Qualifying for the 2024 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will get underway on June 18 to 20, with the timed race event set to take place on June 23.
