Sealion 7 from BYD and EX5 from Geely have undergone the gauntlet of ANCAP tests and passed with flying colours.

BYD’s Sealion 7 follows behind the recently assessed Shark 6 in achieving top marks in crash testing. It received an 87 per cent pass mark for Adult Occupant Protection. And it garnered full points for the side impact, oblique pole and far side impact tests. Weak chest protection was noted for the rear passenger’s chest in the full width test.

Sealion 7 also managed a 93 per cent score for Child Occupant Protection. That’s the equal-top score for vehicles tested under the 2023-2025 protocols. It achieved maximum points for protecting child dummies (six to ten years). SL7 was also rated good for the frontal offset and side impact tests. The vehicle alerts the driver if a child is left in a car seat.
High scores were also awarded for AEB testing across the board, contributing to scores of 76 per cent for Vulnerable Road User Protection and 78 per cent for Safety Assist.
Geely’s first vehicle here also rates five stars
Geely EX5 is another newcomer to the medium electric SUV sector and it too performed admirably in crash testing. It scored in the mid to high eighties for all four criteria, including a score of 87 per cent for “Good” child protection. A direct child presence detection (CPD) system is standard on the EX5 but did not meet the ANCAP requirements.

Its ability to prevent accidents was deemed “Good” and led to a score of 85 per cent, while avoiding harm to vulnerable road users rated an 83 per cent score.
EX5 also achieved full points in side impact, whiplash and far side tests (86 per cent for adult protection).
ANCAP’s CEO, Carla Hoorweg, commented: “The Geely EX5 delivers good overall safety performance and sets a benchmark for Geely’s local presence.”
