This year, the Civic celebrates its 50th anniversary having sold over 27.5 million models across 170 countries since it first launched in 1972.
Honda New Zealand is celebrating the occasion with the launch of a special edition Mugen equipped variant of the current-gen Civic.
Mugen is well-known by Honda fans for their racing parts and production heritage with Honda New Zealand being a proud supplier of the brand for over 15 years.
The special edition will come finished in Premium Crystal Blue which will debut for the first time locally alongside the plethora of Mugen tuning parts.
Mugen parts include a front diffuser, side sills, rear underspoiler, tailgate spoiler, grille trim, sill garnishes and interior and exterior Mugen emblems are among the additions used to create the special edition Civic.
Aside from cosmetics, performance enhancements include forged FS10 wheels that drop 4kg of unsprung mass per corner. A stainless steel sports exhaust system is also fitted, and said to give the Civic a deeper exhaust note.
The Mugen uses the same 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder as the Civic Hatch Sport making 131kW and 240Nm. Transferring power to the road is a continuously variable transmission (CVT) complete with paddle shifters.
The 2022 Honda Civic Hatch Mugen is priced at $52,000 + $950 on road costs.
