Nearly 22 years have passed since a brand new Honda Prelude rolled off the production line, but that might be about to change after the nameplate was recently trademarked by the Japanese carmaker.
On August 15, 2023, Honda filed a trademark for the model under the “Land vehicles, namely, automobiles and automotive structural parts” category in the United States, leading us to believe the Prelude might make a comeback.
There’s always the possibility that this may not mean anything at all, but considering the brand’s 75th anniversary is coming up, we don’t want to dismiss the return of the two-door coupe.
We also start to get giddy when we consider that Honda is no stranger to reviving models of old, considering it did so last year with the Integra under the Acura brand.
However, there’s always the possibility that the model could return as an EV or a crossover SUV which diehard fans may scoff at.
But with that being said, all we can do for the time being is watch the Honda Prelude with a close eye.
If you don’t already know, the Prelude was first launched in 1978 as a close relation to the Accord but in a sportier body, with the model going on to span five generations until it was discontinued in 2001.
Throughout its life, the Prelude followed the formula of a front-engined, front-wheel drive layout, and introduced technology like mechanical four-wheel steering to the world for the first time.
