Hyundai is set to unveil its largest electric SUV, the Ioniq 9, next month, following a series of teasers that began on October 30.
The Ioniq 9, once known as the Ioniq 7, is expected to make its global debut in November, showcasing Hyundai’s latest ‘Aerosthetic’ design philosophy that combines aerodynamic efficiency with visual appeal.
Drawing inspiration from boats, the SUV aims for a sleek, spacious interior that comfortably accommodates up to three rows of seating.
The latest teaser images hint at a design close to the 2021 Seven EV concept, although changes are expected to make the production version more practical. Key features, such as the concept’s distinctive rear-hinged doors and lounge-like cabin, are likely to be replaced with conventional doors and seating. Yet, the Ioniq 9 retains Hyundai’s signature ‘parametric pixel’ lighting, a multi-spoke alloy wheel design, and a seamless glasshouse – reinforcing its futuristic look.
Built on Hyundai’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the Ioniq 9 will share its architecture with the Kia EV9, while distinguishing itself through a unique aesthetic.
Performance options are expected to include single- and dual-motor powertrains with outputs from 160kW/350Nm to 283kW/700Nm, and two battery capacities – a base 76.1kWh and a higher 99.8kWh option.
Hyundai, which celebrated the production of its 100 millionth vehicle earlier this year, aims to reach two million EVs sold by 2030, marking the Ioniq 9 as a significant step toward this goal. The full details of the Ioniq 9 will be released at its world premiere in November.
