This is the new Jaguar GT, or at least the concept car upon which the GT will be based. Images have leaked online ahead of its imminent reveal at Miami Art Week. Car as an art form then.
Jaguar will soon transform into an all-electric luxury car company. The metamorphosis has already been hogging the headlines for the wrong reasons (advertising controversy, unless you’ve missed that). And the release of the three-door concept images is unlikely to keep Jaguar out of the next few news cycles. For the prototype looks like something that might have escaped from the set of a Batman movie.
The new images reveal the entire machine, its ends dominated by large slatted rectangular grilles. Up front are slim headlights while the absence of light clusters at the rear suggests that the lighting elements reside within the grille. A long bonnet and a wraparound pillarless glasshouse supporting a curved roof are other unusual features.
The tapering glasshouse gives the cabin an almost helmeted appearance. Dramatic arches will house huge wheel assemblies, while behind the front wheels sit the new lined Jaguar emblems. These house the rearview cameras.
Inside, the GT is minimalist in the extreme, with an oblong steering wheel and little in the way of switchgear. The driver and passenger seats are separated by a high centre console.
The GT concept car suggests where Jaguar is heading. In the UK you can no longer buy a Jaguar as it works toward a relaunch which is still some time away (late 2026).
Jaguar’s first production car of the electric era will be a high power (at least 430kW) four-door GT with a range of almost 700km. It will cost around $NZ300,000. Two more models will follow in 2027-8.
The four-door is already testing on road in the UK, also with a bluff front end, albeit in disguise.
The first phase of a renewed Jaguar brand was revealed recently with the ‘strikethrough’ Jaguar design feature, and a “Copy Nothing” slogan.
