Australian company JOLT is installing several free electric vehicle chargers around Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch later this year.
The chargers will be installed at Mitre 10 stores. JOLT forecasts having 500 chargers operational by the year’s end.
EV drivers can get 7kW of free charging every day, good enough for roughly 40 – 50 km.
“JOLT is investing in New Zealand as there is strong momentum within the market to change to an EV,” JOLT CEO Doug McNamee.
The introduction of the Clean Car Discount earlier this year and the announcement of the Emission Reduction Plan on Monday have caused a surge in EV sales around the country.
JOLT hope to capitalise on the movement and further encourage Kiwis to consider switching to electric.
“JOLT is investing and developing an urban focused EV fast charging network that will align with local and central government climate emissions targets and help increase the uptake of EV’s in New Zealand,” New Zealand Country Manager Chris Monaghan said.
“Drivers pull up, plug in and are on their way in 20 minutes, receiving up to 7kWh free per day, saving over $1,000 a year.”
JOLT plans to install ‘hundreds’ of more free chargers over the next few years.
