The 2021 Formula 1 world championship will go down in history as one of the most dramatic seasons of the sport in its modern era; some fans relishing the nail-biting finale and the emergence of a new champion, and others listing it as one of the darkest hours of the series.
Wherever you sit on the spectrum, you’ve got to acknowledge that championship winner Max Verstappen had a stellar season. He was already a popular name in the paddock, but with a championship under his belt the fandom around the Dutchman is set for new heights.
And for one Verstappen fan, this could be the ultimate slice of Max memorabilia.
The Dutch driver’s road-going wheels for the season, a Honda Civic Type R FK8, is heading to auction with sales firm CarNext. The car and its listing have yet to be unveiled, but a promotional video from Verstappen leaves little to the imagination.
Although in its attempt to build suspense for its high-profile listing, CarNext has yet to show off what the car is, it has detailed that the car is a 2018 model with 58,000km on the odometer. Verstappen has also signed its dashboard.
Verstappen’s Red Bull squad has of course leaned on Honda as an engine supplier for several years, with the Japanese manufacturer set to exit the sport after nabbing one last championship.
CarNext and Verstappen say proceeds from the sale will be going to charity, although the charity of choice has yet to be named (perhaps it will be chosen by the auction winner). Bidding is reported to start at €33,333, or just over $55,000.
