It isn’t every day that the opportunity to own a piece of motorsport history comes up, which is why today is a bit special as Ken Block’s old 2004 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS has been listed for auction.
The car is listed on the auction website Bring a Trailer where it’ll likely fetch a pretty penny, not just because of who it once belonged to and was raced by, but also because of the legacy it helped spark.
After being converted to Open Class rally specifications in 2006, the car was campaigned by Block and co-driver Alex Gelsomino in several X Games rally events.
Setting it apart from other competitors at the time was its distinct Monster energy drink livery and iconic #43, two traits the late American driver’s cars are globally recognised for.
Under the bonnet sits a modified 2.0-litre turbocharged flat-four which sends power through a five-speed dog-box manual transmission to all four wheels.
Other modifications include a MoTeC M880 ECU, Ohlins shock absorbers, Cusco suspension, 15-inch Work wheels, skid plates, PIAA driving lights, Recaro seats, a roll cage, and more.
There’s no doubting that this is an out-in-out rally car, and with that comes a few battle scars like a cracked front spoiler and subtle blemishes here and there. Nevertheless, it’s a special piece of motorsport history with each mark having a story to tell.
To seal the deal, the Impreza will also come with a build book containing Gelsomino’s signature, while Block’s can be found on the dashboard of the car itself, along with racing driver and stunt performer Travis Pastrana’s.
As of writing, the current bid for Block’s old Subaru sits at $US46k (around $NZ75k) with just nine days left for the auction to run its course.
