The new KGM electric ute will soon be upon us, and this is what it will look like. Its styling closely resembles the concept from a couple of years ago, while the aesthetic upfront resembles the Torres.
The images show an AWD badge on the door, so 4×4 is a given then, although other details are still to come. If you think it looks a little, well, short for a ute, this is because the new pick up is based on the mid-size Torres EVX platform. Its overall dimensions are not yet known but it will be smaller than your usual diesel-munching, full chassis ute like the Hilux and Ranger.

Being SUV based, it should offer superior levels of comfort for passengers with better ride and handling characteristics than those big utes.

However, don’t expect big numbers when it comes to towing and payload. Torres EVX offers a maximum towing capacity of 1500kg, and while you’d hope KGM will improve on that, it probably won’t be by much.
Some official filings in South Korea revealed it will have at least 400km of range thanks to an 80.6kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery sourced from BYD.

Expect the interior to mimic the Torres and offer similar items such as the V2L (vehicle-to-load) charging capabilities while some of the items specific to the ute include a canopy, a rooftop cargo carrier, a tray divider, a roll bar and a sliding rear bed.
The Musso EV launches in South Korea next month, where all the details will be revealed.
