Kia has today revealed the exterior and interior design of its all-new three-row electric flagship SUV, the EV9.
What appears in front of us is a model that looks remarkably similar to the concept which was unveiled back in 2021.
Designers at Kia adopted the brand’s ‘Opposites United’ philosophy in styling the production model, which boasts both boxy and rugged looks.
Up front is a closed off grille and a set of vertical headlights which are joined by distinct ‘Star Map’ LED daytime running lights.
Boxiness is continued along the side of the EV9 which features polygonal design language and yet, it still achieves aerodynamic efficiency according to Kia. It’s fenders also bare similarity to the concept with sharp, triangular lines.
Simple lines can be found at the rear which are joined by a set of tail lights that mimic the styling of the daytime running lights up front. The ‘floating’ roofline also sweeps slightly downward from the windscreen to the boot hatch.
Like many electric cars, the door handles have been kept flush to the body for the sake of streamlining the sides of the vehicle to eek as much range out of the battery as possible.
Speaking of which, technical specifications regarding its electric motors and battery have yet to be released but we do know the model is based on Kia’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) as found under the EV6 and shared by Hyundai.
The electric platform also makes for plenty of space inside the cabin thanks to a flat floor and the model’s long wheelbase. It also has trick second-row seating which occupants can turn 180-degrees, enabling them to interact with those in the third-row.
The rear-most seats also offer cup holders and charging outlets for devices.
As for the driver and front passenger, they are greeted with a floating panoramic dashboard which is home to two 12.3-inch touch screens as well as a 5-inch segment display which the vehicle’s functions can be operated from. However, that does mean physical buttons have been kept to a minimum.
Plenty of storage can be found in the centre console, including a compartment located at its base.
Information regarding local pricing and availability of the Kia EV9 will be provided in due course after the model makes its global premiere in late March.
