Kia New Zealand is taking hold of the clean-car initiative by introducing its up-sized Kia Niro Plus electrified model lineup to the market.
Several enhancements have been made compared to the first generation Niro, including the addition of 80mm in length and height to the car combined with slimmed-down body structures, providing occupants with more space inside the cabin.
The Niro Plus range comes in two front-wheel drive powertrain variants including hybird electric (HEV) and fully electric (EV) models.
Included with the HEV is a 77kW 1.6-litre petrol four-cylinder mated to a six-speed dual clutch transmission. Combined with the power of a 32kW electric motor, the hybrid produces a total of 104kW and 265Nm.
The EV variant is powered by a 150kW, 395Nm electric motor capable of 423kms range on one charge courtesy of its 170kW battery. Recharging takes just 47 minutes from 10 to 80 per cent when using a 100kW DC charger.
Cargo capacity is also increased to almost 1500-litres with the rear seats folded down in the fully electric Niro Plus model.
In addition to increased interior space and cargo capacity, the new Niro Plus benefits from an array of safety systems like forward collision avoidance assist, lane keep assist, smart cruise control and rear cross traffic alert.
Inside you can find features such as an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, 7-inch digital cluster and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on selected models.
Entry-model pricing for the HEV Light model comes in at $37,990 plus ORC while the EV Light is priced at $64,990 plus ORC. Both models receive a clean car discount, reducing the final price further.
The Niro Plus will be available for test drives at Kia dealerships nationwide from October.
