Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton has revealed he will reunite with his former trainer, Kiwi Angela Cullen, as he embarks on his high-profile Ferrari journey.
Hamilton and Cullen first joined forces in 2016, during the Briton’s time at Mercedes. Over seven successful seasons, the pair forged a formidable partnership that Hamilton credits with boosting both his performance and mindset.
However, they parted ways ahead of the 2023 season, and Cullen shifted her focus to IndyCar driver Marcus Armstrong, another Kiwi talent. Now, sources confirm that Cullen will join Hamilton’s new “Project 44” initiative as the lead physiotherapist, bringing the pair back together just as Hamilton settles into Ferrari.
Speaking about Cullen in the past, Hamilton has often highlighted her relentless positivity and tireless work ethic.
“She’s one of the greatest things that’s happened to me,” he said in 2020. “She’s the single hardest-working woman I’ve had the pleasure to work with. Every day I wake up, she’s just positive—never a day has she been negative. That’s so important in this environment.”
Hamilton made his first official appearance at Ferrari’s legendary Maranello base in Italy earlier this week, a moment he described as a “dream come true.” The 40-year-old’s schedule will now focus on integrating with the team, adapting to Ferrari’s simulator program, and stepping into a red machine for the first time on track.
Cullen’s return is expected to bolster Hamilton’s performance team, overseen by another long-time associate, Marc Hynes.
For Kiwi motorsport fans, seeing Cullen—one of New Zealand’s top performance trainers—back alongside Hamilton is a point of pride. And for the world of Formula 1, the reunion adds another layer of intrigue to what could be one of the most exciting driver-team combinations in years.
