Lamborghini’s best-selling model just got faster. The 4.0L twin-turbo V8 remains but it’s now bolstered by an electric motor, improving its performance capabilities and efficiency.
That electric motor produces 141kW and 483Nm of torque, combined with the 456kW and 800Nm from the engine. That gives the Urus SE a total output of 588kW at 6000rpm and 950Nm at 1750-5750rpm. Mated to an eight-speed transmission the V8 donk has been re-engineered to work in optimal synergy with the electric powertrain.
Zero to100kph is done in a claimed 3.4sec (Urus S does the dash in 3.5sec) with a top speed of 312km/h.
The 25.9kWh lithium-ion battery sits below the cargo floor and offers a pure electric driving range of 60km. Lamborghini claims an 80 per cent reduction in emissions compared with the ICE Urus. That’s presumably if it is plugged in regularly.
Another first for the Urus is a new centrally-located longitudinal electric torque vectoring system with an electro-hydraulic multi-plate clutch. It distributes driving torque variably and continuously between the front and rear axles. A new electronic LSD on the rear axle offers ‘on-demand’ oversteer, giving the car RWD sports car characteristics.
New on the outside too
It’s not just under the skin though as Lamborghini has also updated the matrix LED headlights and daytime running lights, said to mimic the tail of a bull. A new hood, redesigned front bumper, and front grille also feature.
At the rear Urus SE gets a new cargo hatch said to be inspired by the Gallardo. There’s also a new rear diffuser and spoiler that help increase downforce over the Urus S by 35 per cent at high speeds.
Underneath, new under-body air vents and air ducts offer more airflow to the mechanical and engine components, giving a 15 per cent increase in cooling over the original Urus. The updated front end also benefits the braking with a 30 per cent increase in cooling.
Inside
A larger 12.3-inch screen now sits in the centre of the dashboard, with an updated Human Machine Interface (HMI) and new graphics as found in the Revuelto. Updated air vents, anodised aluminum trim elements and new panels give the Urus SE a slight refresh.
Customisation
It wouldn’t be a Lambo without the ability to customise to your heart’s desire. The Urus SE rides on 23-inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tyres. Three dedicated sizes ranging from 21-23″ are on offer, depending on customer requirements.
Lamborghini offers the Urus SE in over 100 body colour options and 46 colour combinations for the interior with four types of embroidery. If thats not enough, Lamborghini’s Ad Personam program will allow customers to create something truly unique.
We wonder whether the Lamborghini Huracán replacement, likely to be named Temerario, will get the same V8 PHEV set-up. It is due to be unveiled at a Pebble Beach event midyear.
Pricing is yet to be announced but we expect the Urus SE sticker to sit between the Urus S ($395,000) and the Urus Performante ($445,000).
