Kiwi F1 ace Liam Lawson has broken his silence following his sudden but expected move from Oracle Racing to its Visa Cash App Racing Bulls sister operation.
“It’s tough.”
Lawson took to Instagram this morning in response to the news, posting a picture of himself from a school report, noting even at that young age he intended to be a ‘racing driver’.
“Being a @redbullracing driver has been my dream since I was a kid; it’s what I’ve worked towards my whole life,” Lawson posted.
“It’s tough, but I’m grateful for everything that’s brought me to this point. To every one of you who’s stood by me, thank you for all the support—it means the world.”
He also thanked his old—and now new—team, noting he was looking forward to next week’s race in Japan.
“Thank you @visacashapprb for the warm welcome. I’m excited and ready to go to work at one of my favourite places 🇯🇵.”
The post attracted over 175,000 views in the first hour, and over 4000 mostly positive comments.
His partner Hannah St John was quick to show support.
“Head up my love and show them what they’re missing ♥️”
Kiwi NASCAR driver and fellow Red Bull rep Shane van Gisbergen shared a simple three-word show of support:
“Prove ’em wrong.”
Former F1 talking head Will Buxton—yes, the guy who states the obvious on Netflix’s Drive to Survive—shared his take:
“This will be but one chapter in the story of your life. The best is yet to come. Show them all who you are. Show them all what you do 👊”
All Black Dan Carter also chimed in.
“We’re all behind you, bro. Onwards and upwards!”
