The Lexus NX has received five stars in its recent ANCAP safety rating.
The top-grade was awarded to all petrol, hybrid and electric NX models.
Maximum points were awarded to the NX for protecting the driver in the side impact test and the front passenger in the frontal offset test.
A mix of Good and Adequate scores was also shown for adult occupants in the full width frontal and oblique pole tests.
The only low score was a ‘Marginal’ grade for protecting a driver’s chest in a front and side-on collision.
The NX was introduced to the New Zealand market in January and is fitted with several crash avoidance sensors and technologies.
The autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system can detect and respond to other vehicles and pedestrians, including in turning scenarios and cyclists.
Other crash avoidance technologies include lane support, lane assist, speed assist and blind-spot monitoring.
The Lexus NX is equipped with a centre airbag to protect against occupant-to-occupant interaction in side impacts. It also protects the head of both front seat occupants.
“Lexus has provided an impressive suite of safety features and active safety equipment in its latest NX model,” said ANCAP Chief Executive Carla Hoorweg.
The NX is the highest-rated medium SUV of all models tested so far in 2022, beating the Mitsubishi Outlander and GMW Haval H6.
