Mahinda has revealed its latest take on the dual cab ute with a new concept that could give the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux a run for their money once it hits production.
It’s called the Global Pik Up, and as the name suggests, the concept previews a production model that will be sold all over the world, including New Zealand.
We don’t have to wait long before the new model is launched here either, with its arrival slated for 2025.
As for the concept itself, it adopts a similar front end to the Scorpio N SUV with regard to its headlights and grille, but gets a redesigned front bumper with vertically-arranged daytime running lights and a winch.
Underpinning the production Global Pik Up will be an extended version of the Scorpio N’s ladder frame chassis, while it will reportedly be powered by the next generation of Mahindra’s mHawk diesel engines, according to Autocar India.
The model will also be equipped with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, as well as a four-wheel drive system with four different drive modes consisting of ‘Normal’, ‘Grass-Gravel-Snow’, ‘Mud-Rut’, and ‘Sand’.
It’s said to feature Level-2 ADAS capability, semi-automatic parking, and 5G-based connectivity features too.
Alongside a local launch, the production version of the Global Pik Up will also be offered in Australia, South Africa, and the Middle East before it makes its way to South East Asia and South America.
