Maserati has officially unveiled its latest race car, the GT2, which is set to return the Trident brand to global GT competition and follow in the footsteps of the MC12.
We were first alerted to the new car’s presence back in March when renderings of the car were released but today is the day we get our first glimpse of the final version.
It’s clear that the GT2 is based on the MC20 supercar which donates its 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged Nettuno V6 to the racer. Like the road car, the engine still makes 463kW but Maserati says it has taken the GT2 to the “extreme” for track use, just not in terms of power.
Behind the engine is a six-speed sequential racing gearbox, while the car has also been given racing suspension and electric power steering.
The interior features a 10-inch digital display depicting vital information to the race driver, along with a button box that operates the car’s functions.
With regard to exterior styling, there’s an abundance of new aerodynamic components such as a bigger front splitter, canards, wider side skirts, and an impressively large rear wing. There’s also a roof scoop that has been designed to funnel air into the mid-mounted Nettuno.
The race car is set to take part in various championships and individual events that involve the GT2 class. It will debut in the late stages of the 2023 Fanatec GT European Series before participating in the full 2024 season.

The decision to return to track racing forms part of a thorough strategic framework, inaugurated this year with the debut in Formula E, to which we have now added our return to the world of GT competitions,” said Davide Grasso, CEO of Maserati.
