Mazda’s new three-row SUV, called the CX-80, goes on sale here soon and pricing has been announced.
There are three model grades to choose from starting with the SP which uses the 3.3-litre straight six engine and costs $74,990. You can also get the SP model as a plug-in hybrid for a $6k premium. It uses a 2.5-litre four cylinder matched to an electric motor. Topping the range is the Homura PHEV which is $89,490.
The SP grade includes leather seat trim with electrically adjusted and heated front seats, 20-inch wheels and LED lights. You get a powered tailgate, surround view camera and the Personalisation System. The latter supposedly sorts the ideal seat position depending on your height.
The Homura adds a few more items like a panoramic glass roof and adaptive LED lights. Other upgraded features include a Bose audio system, additional functions for the camera and the Personalisation System.
Hybrid tech for each variant
PHEV models have a combined output of 241kW and 500Nm. This is made up of 141kW and 261Nm of ICE power, while the motor delivers 129kW and 270Nm. The CX-80 has 17.8kWh battery pack which gives an electric driving range of up to 59 kilometres. When you’re able to start the day with a fully charged battery, fuel consumption is said to be 1.7L/100km. However, expect that to be much more if you forget to recharge.
For those that don’t like the idea of a plug-in and paying road user charges, you can go for the 3.3-litre turbocharged inline six in the SP. This is helped along by a 48v vmild hybrid system. The 3.3 outputs 209kW and 450Nm while returning a claimed 8.4L/100km. Both powertrains are rated to tow 2.5 tonnes braked.
Rounding out the package, the CX-80 comes with a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty and you get Mazda Care genuine scheduled servicing for the first five years or 100,000 kilometres at no extra cost.
