Mazda has officially revealed its CX-6e, a mid-size electric SUV to rival Tesla Model Y and Audi Q4 e-tron.

It is set to debut in 2027, and represents an important step in the brand’s electrification journey. Known in China as EZ-60, it will likely take the CX-6e title elsewhere, to differentiate it from the Mazda 6e. Think of it also as the electric version of the CX-60.
Design
Using inspiration from the Arata concept and the new 6e sedan, the CX-6e has a sleek, aerodynamic Kodo design about it. Features include thin LED DRLS above main headlamps, a covered grille, flush-fit door handles, and a streamlined roof, imbuing it with an SUV coupe look. Whether or not the camera wing mirrors make it to production is unclear.

It will likely be built on Mazda’s new Scalable SkyActiv platform, which is a modular design, underpinning various electric and plug-in hybrid configurations.
The model will be built in the Changan plant, mainly for domestic consumption, but is also likely to be a global model in time. A second plant in Japan will also build CX-6e.
Performance
Likely as not the CX-6e will offer multiple battery options, potentially ranging from 75kWh to over 90kWh. That should deliver battery range in excess of 500km. To match rivals, it will need fast-charging capabilities; Mazda is targeting peak rates of at least 180kW.

Interior
No images are available yet but the vehicle will debut at the Shanghai Motor Show soon. The CX-6e cabin is expected to mirror the minimalist design of the 6e sedan. Likely features include a large central touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, and a focus on driver-centric ergos. The five-seater will have luggage capacity of around the 500L mark. Mazda’s horse-and-rider-as-one philosophy should ensure an enjoyable and engaging drive experience.
Rivals
Mazda is aiming for the CX-6e to enter the market at a price that undercuts Tesla Model Y.
