A spy shot of the new MG electric sports car has recently surfaced online, showing the car without camouflage.
We were first clued in on the two-seat roadster when leaked renders of the upcoming model appeared mid-last year alongside the release of a teaser video towards the end of 2023.
Now is the first time we’re seeing the model in full, suggesting the new MG isn’t too far away from making an official debut.
The image, posted by abcmoteur.fr, shows the car with its roof down in the car park of what looks to be an MG storage area in China.
It shows the model’s distinct tail light arrangement with indicators that resemble an arrow shape and an illuminated brake light that spans the width of the rear end.
In its teaser last year, MG described the car as the “return of a legend,” suggesting the model will be a spiritual successor to the brand’s famed series of roadster models.
An official name has yet to be revealed which means we could see the return of the MGB nameplate or something of the like.
As for technical specs, all we know is that it will be fully electric and likely have similar dimensions to the current generation Mazda MX-5 (ND).
The Cyberster concept, of which the new model is based on, is said to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in under three seconds. It isn’t clear whether or not the same can be said for its production counterpart.
Reports also suggest the MG sports car is based on the carmaker’s Modular Scalable Platform as found on the MG 4 hatchback which features 50:50 weight distribution.
A full reveal is expected in the near future with production slated for 2024.
