Mini’s line-up revival continues with the recently announced Cooper 5-door, which will be available in New Zealand priced from $48,990.
Offered in a variety of flavours and with both C and S powertrain configurations, it is said to be ‘a versatile take on the classic Mini hatch, offering increased passenger and cargo room without sacrificing the brand’s famed go-kart handling’.
The Cooper C is powered by a 1.5-litre, 115kW/230Nm turbocharged triple running via a seven-speed twin-clutch auto. The Cooper S gets a larger 2.0-litre four pot with 150kW and 300Nm. It can hit 0-100km/h in a claimed 6.8 seconds, making it 1.2sec swifter than the C.
How much bigger is the 5-door Mini?
The 5-door is a bit longer than the entry level hatch, the wheelbase with an extra 72mm between the wheels and the body being 172mm longer overall. There are also seats for five (small) people. The boot can be expanded from 275L to 925 by dropping the back seat.
While the look is ‘new’ it’s still Mini familiar with round headlights and that octagonal grille. The DRL design can be switched up to ‘suit your mood’. Inside is the brand’s new 240mm circular OLED screen a.k.a the Mini Interaction Unit, which comes with a voice assistant and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability.
