Mito Transitions to work based learning limited

MITO’s Transition Plan has reached its final milestone, with approval received from the Tertiary Education Commission’s Board of Commissioners to transfer its arranging training functions.

On 1 January 2022, MITO’s arranging training functions will transfer to Te Pūkenga Work Based Learning Limited (WBL), a subsidiary of Te Pūkenga. All industries within its coverage will transfer, with the exception of the industrial textile fabrication industry which will transfer to MAST Academy.

MITO Chief Executive Janet Lane says there was strong support from the automotive, commercial road transport, drilling, gas, mining and quarrying, passenger service and ports and stevedoring industry stakeholders to transition into WBL.

“The transition to Work Based Learning Limited will ensure that there is no disruption for our learners and employers. Our people, processes and systems will all seamlessly transition. The wealth of skills, knowledge and experience that our people bring will be vital to support the success of the new vocational education system.”

MITO will become the fourth Business Division within WBL, joining Competenz, Connexis and BCITO who have transitioned in preceding months, with others set to transition in 2022.

Stakeholders in the industrial textile fabrication industry supported the transition of their arranging training functions to a new private training establishment, MAST Academy, which has been formed by NZ Marine and Composites ITO.

“Through our engagement with this industry, it was clear that there was significant alignment to the marine and composites industry and the bespoke service that MAST Academy will provide. MITO will work alongside MAST Academy to ensure a smooth transition for all learners and employers and the associated systems and processes to take effect from 1 January 2022,” says Ms Lane.

On 4 October 2021, MITO’s standard-setting, consent to assess, programme endorsement and qualification development functions transferred to Hanga-Aro-Rau Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics Workforce Development Council, with the exception of the gas industry which transferred to Waihanga Ara Rau Construction and Infrastructure Workforce Development Council.
