Jaguar has issued some more images of its upcoming electric GT offering. It will be the first in a new offensive of luxury electric automobiles.
This features a sci-fi rear end, all flat surfaces and sharp creases. That’s in contrast to the curvy nature of more recent Jaguars.
There’s no rear window either, as predicted earlier, with cameras emerging instead to issue digital images of the rearward view.
The teaser image also showcased the GT concept’s dramatic proportions, with an exaggerated rear wheel arch and wide track, and contrasting gentle curves and straight lines. It’s not yet clear where the rear lights are sited either; they may be behind the horizontal slats running across the tail.
These lines mimic those of the new Leaper logo, and suggest they represent Jaguar’s new branding in actual car size rather than merely a logo concept.
The social media message attached to the image was “copy nothing”, a phrase evidently uttered by Jaguar founder, William Lyons.
There has been a pushback to Jaguar’s rebranding, even warranting a snarky commentary by Marina Hyde of Guardian fame.
Gerry McGovern, chief creative officer for JLR, said “We are creating Jaguar for the future, restoring its status as a brand that enriches the lives of our clients and the Jaguar community”.
JLR chief, Adrian Mardell, described Jaguar’s rebirth as “a complete reset” and said its new effort is “something spectacular”.
The concept will disrobe on 2 December at Miami Art Week in Florida.
It previews the four-door electric GT, the first of an electric three-car line-up due from 2026. The GT will have pots of power and range of around 700km.
The Porsche Taycan rival is likely to kick things off at around $NZ280k.
