Lamborghini has taken the honours for the fastest production SUV to hit the steep slopes of Pikes Peak with a yet-to-be-revealed Urus model.
While the 100th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb event was held back in June, Lamborghini has only just revealed that it had set the production SUV record with a time of 10:32.064.
However, the Italian brand didn’t actually set the time during the event itself but rather on the same 20km closed course with official timekeepers present.
Simone Faggioli, hillclimb champion and Pirelli test driver, was the one behind the wheel of the new Urus which sported a camouflage wrap ahead of its official reveal sometime later this year we assume.
The previous record was held by New Zealand racing driver Rhys Millen, who set a time of 10:49.902 in a Bentley Bentayga back in 2018. That means Faggioli beat Millen’s time by just under 18 seconds.
To comply with the safety regulations of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, the record-setting Urus was fitted with a passenger compartment roll cage.
Under the bonnet of the Urus is the same twin-turbo V8 found in the road-going model. However, it’s likely this new model has a bit more power over its standard sibling.
