A completely new ZS small SUV from MG is coming and it features hybrid power for the first time. However, don’t expect a ZS EV replacement any time soon. It will come along in 2026 as a brand new model based on the MG4. Likely it will resemble a high-rise version of that.
Meantime, MG has released teaser images of its second-generation small SUV online ahead of an imminent UK reveal. The images show plenty of HS influence in the styling.
The new ZS completes the revised line-up for MG. Its prominent front grille has been seen already in new HS and MG3 supermini. And the angular headlights are also familiar while the MG badge moves up onto the bonnet’s front end. A section of the lower bumper is designed to resemble a skid plate. Air intakes help to give the ZS a more imposing front end.
In profile the look is somewhat similar to its predecessor with an expansive glass house. The rear end has MG3-esque taillights. A sporty set of twin exhaust shrouds appear in the bumper.
Under the hood of the new ZS is the same full-hybrid powertrain as features in the MG3 Hybrid+. The latter consists of a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, a 100kW/250Nm electric motor and a 1.83kWh battery. Combined output is 143kW and 425Nm of torque. With the larger than normal battery, the ZS should be manage plenty of pure electric driving at urban speeds.
Expect a significant price increase from the outgoing ZS which is amongst the least expensive crossovers available.
