This mid-sized electric SUV is Skoda’s first ‘Modern Solid’ design language offering.
Skoda’s electric Elroq will launch soon, according to company CEO Klaus Zellmer. The company released a teaser image of the Elroq to confirm it’s coming. They also let AutoExpress journalists loose in a prototype. Spy shots have come to light as well.
The Elroq introduces Skoda‘s ‘Modern Solid’ styling philosophy. It was first shown off in the Vision 7S concept car of 2022. The ‘Solid’ is a hint, new designs showing a robust look. Oliver Stefani, head of Skoda design, suggests “our brand-new Elroq sets a new tone.”
The teaser image of the mid-size electric SUV shows off the split headlight design. These wrap around to the car’s sides, and there’s Skoda lettering on the front of the bonnet. Below that is the Elroq’s ‘Tech-Deck Face’, a wider blanked-off version of the traditional Skoda grille.
Skoda says Elroq will roll on large wheel designs, and will have matrix LED headlight technology.
The medium sizer is evidently 4.5m in length and will offer a serious amount of interior space with “exceptional practicality”. Its boot can swallow 470L of gear, while there’s almost 50L of additional storage space in the cabin. And dispensing with the rear seats liberates a 1580L space.
Simply Clever features include a storage net for the charging cables and a QR code in the boot that links to instructional videos.
Supporting Elroq is VW’s dedicated electric MEB platform also used by Enyaq. The base model is Elroq 50 with a 55kWh battery and a 125kW rear electric motor. Elroq 60 has a 63kWh battery and 150kW motor.
At the head of the Elroq range is the 85 with an 82kWh battery for a range of more than 550km. It gets a 210kW motor. The Elroq 85x adds a dual-motor set-up and AWD with a combined output of 220kW. An Elroq vRS model is also promised.
Skoda has six new EVs planned for the next few years, including a seven-seater flagship, a road version of the Skoda Epiq concept and an entry-level EV.
