The first images of the new Subaru Forester were leaked online over the weekend, revealing the model’s design in full ahead of its official unveiling next week.
We first caught wind of the new SUV just last week when the American arm of Subaru teased a shot of its wheel and stated that the car – which it didn’t name – has been “newly redesigned”.
Thanks to a series of images posted to Imgur by an unknown source, we not only know that this is in fact the new Forester, but we’re also shown almost every single angle of the vehicle imaginable.
However, compared to the outgoing model, it’s hard to see many similarities other than its overall shape.
At the front, there’s a new set of headlights that look more like those found on a Ford Explorer than the old Forester’s C-shaped units, at least that’s according to many people on social media. On the other hand, the rear end reminds us a lot of the Suzuki S-Cross’ design which also features taillights that are joined by a slim black trim piece.
Inside, there’s a portrait infotainment touchscreen that is believed to be the same 11.6-inch unit from other modern Subarus, in addition to reused control surfaces such as the steering wheel and shifter.
What appears to be a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre flat four-cylinder engine sits under the bonnet, but we don’t know whether it has undergone any technical updates compared to the same motor found in the current model. In true Subaru fashion, all-wheel drive also makes an appearance.
Two different variants of the Forester are shown in the leaked images, one being the ‘Sport’ finished in white and bronze, and the other being the ‘Touring’ in grey and black trim.
We’ll hear more about the new Subaru Forester when it’s officially revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 16, or the 17th for us.
Considering Subaru New Zealand still offers the Forester locally, it’s likely we’ll also receive the new model which we expect to hear more about following its big reveal.
