Volkswagen Tayron is a new seven-seater SUV from the German giant that will replace the Tiguan Allspace. The rival to Nissan X-Trail and Kia Sorento is a sibling to Skoda’s Kodiaq.
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) shared these images of an undisguised car.
The Tayron name most won’t recognise but it has been used by Volkswagen in the Chinese market for some time. From the design it is clear this is the big sib to the third-generation Tiguan.
Both vehicles feature the same understated styling, right down to the wide front grille and rear light bar treatment. This particular model features R-Line specification with its more aggressive front bumper, larger side air intakes and a gloss black finish.
Tayron will be longer than the Tiguan, around 4.7m, and with a wheelbase around 2.8m. That’s about 160mm longer than Tiguan, while the wheelbase extends by 120mm.
The rear doors seem bigger, to help with ingress and egress from the third-row seating.
Expect Tayron interior to be the same as Tiguan’s with a 10.25-inch driver’s display and 12.9-inch central touchscreen. A 15-inch central screen is likely to be an optional extra. Expect a few physical buttons along with touch-sensitive backlit AC controls.
Tayron rides on the same MQB Evo platform as the Tiguan and Skoda Kodiaq. So there will be a range of ICE engines, including a PHEV with 75km of range.
