The next-generation Mercedes-AMG GT has been leaked online, showing the model in coupe form ahead of an official unveiling later this year.
Instagram user “@liucunyi_starandca” uploaded an image of what looks to be AMG’s new grand tourer with no disguise.
As a successor to the first generation model released in 2014, the newly designed sports car features similar styling characteristics to its predecessor such as its long bonnet and short rear hatch.
It isn’t clear what trim level the pictured car is but some publications suggest it’s an entry-level model fitted with a four-cylinder engine.
The new GT shares Mercedes-AMG’s Modular Sports Architecture (MSA) with the SL, meaning it will inherit its mild-hybrid four-cylinder engine as well as the twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 found in the SL 55 and SL 63.
Considering the SL is a dedicated drop top, its likely the GT will remain solely as a coupe model.
A plug-in hybrid version has also been spied testing which can be distinguished by its battery charge door and circular exhaust pipe exits.
The leaked image also suggests the next-generation AMG GT will be offered with Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
We can expect to see a full reveal of the new coupe in the near future.
