Nissan has pulled the covers off a few of its new models and outlined its plans for the next couple of years ahead as it re-organises under its new leadership team. The automaker is doubling down on innovation, customer engagement, and sustainable growth.
The brand’s latest strategy focuses on powertrain diversity, with upcoming models featuring hybrid technologies—including e-POWER and plug-in hybrids—alongside next-gen EVs and advanced internal combustion engines (ICE). Nissan’s chief performance officer, Guillaume Cartier, emphasised the company’s renewed approach, stating, “Through powertrain diversification and new models, we will provide a broader range of options that cater to diverse customer preferences, further distinguishing Nissan and INFINITI brands.”

Reimagining the LEAF
A highlight of the upcoming releases is the third-generation Nissan LEAF, which has been completely reimagined as a sleek and spacious crossover. Aerodynamic improvements, an enhanced EV architecture, and Nissan’s modular CMF-EV platform promise significant range gains and a more engaging driving experience. North American markets will get first dibs on the all-new LEAF later this year, followed by Japan.

A new Micra too, but only for Europe
The Micra nameplate returns to Europe, reimagined in the form of an all-new, all-electric city car, produced in collaboration with Renault. Styled by Nissan Design Europe in London, it will be offered exclusively for European customers.
In FY26, an additional EV, the all-new, all-electric Juke will be added to the range – Nissan’s fourth passenger car EV in Europe. As previewed by the ‘Hyper Punk’ concept, this compact crossover will continue the nameplate’s tradition of bold design and advanced connectivity delivering personalisation to support the owner’s self-expression.

Next-Gen e-POWER
Nissan’s third-generation e-POWER technology is also set to make waves, incorporating learnings from over 1.6 million units produced since its debut in 2016. The new system promises up to 15% greater fuel efficiency at high speeds compared to its predecessor while also delivering lower emissions and enhanced refinement. A new 1.5-litre dedicated e-POWER engine and a state-of-the-art 5-in-1 system—integrating core components from Nissan’s latest EV powertrains—will further boost performance. The technology will first appear in the Qashqai in Europe in FY25, followed by the next-gen Rogue in North America and a large minivan for the Japanese market in FY26.

What’s coming next for New Zealand?
While we won’t see anything new this year, in FY26, we can expect to see the all-new Nissan Patrol, a new Navara developed in collaboration with Mitsubishi Motors, the next-gen LEAF EV, and the Qashqai crossover equipped with the latest e-POWER technology.
