The second generation MG HS is now in New Zealand. It is available in three variants; Vibe, Excite, and Essence, with pricing starting from $36,990.
The new HS has been ‘redesigned from the ground up’ and is powered by a 1.5-litre turbopetrol with 125kW and 275Nm of torque matched to a dual-clutch transmission. The HS is rated at 156g/km and 6.9L/100km.
A new SUV standard?

This new model exemplifies our dedication to excellence and our vision for the future”. They say the HS is a ‘revolutionary mid-size SUV that sets a new standard in performance and sophistication’. Sounds mighty impressive for 37 grand.

What about the spec levels?
The Vibe grade gets automatic LED headlights, 18-inch alloys, and two 12.3-inch screens as part of the ‘Dual Screen Entertainment System’ with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Excite adds 19-inch wheels, sat nav, a 360-degree camera and the convenience of remotely controlling your air conditioner or heater via MG iSmart. The Essence gains more stuff again; a panoramic sunroof, eight-speaker audio system, dual zone AC, heated front seats and wireless smartphone charging.
The new SUV features the MG Pilot safety suite with adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking and blind-spot detection.The driver’s display offers a variety of layouts to keep tabs on the safety systems and trip info. The HS comes with MG’s big 10-year/250,000km warranty.
What’s the price of the new MG HS?
The Vibe is $36,990, the Excite is $39,990 and the Essence asks $42,990.
