Since 2018, the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) has offered a service for the removal and disposal of automotive pyrotechnics found in cars like airbags, seat belt pretensioners, and warning flares.
NZDF had been undertaking this work in the absence of a viable commercial alternative. However, there is now a commercial company which is able to undertake the disposal of automotive pyrotechnics and therefore this service is no longer provided by NZDF.
