New Zealand’s newest car brand, Omoda, has released further details about its incoming C5 SUV which will be offered with a choice of two petrol engines.
When it lands in the first half of 2024, the fossil-powered model will be offered in two trim variants, including a standard and premium version as far as we understand it.
Both will be available with a turbocharged 1.5-litre making 108kW and 210Nm of torque, mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT), as well as a more powerful turbocharged 1.6-litre that sends 147kW and 290Nm through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Omoda says that technology is the focal point of its new SUV, which is why the C5 has been equipped with dual 10.25-inch screens for both the driver’s gauge cluster and infotainment screen, the latter of which features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
One of the C5’s party tricks is its onboard artificial intelligence “voice command system” which can be named whatever your heart desires.
Other standard features include wireless device charging, LED headlights with adaptive beams, as well as a generous suite of driver assistance systems like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, and more.
Those looking to get a bit more out of their C5 can opt for the premium variant which comes with a leather-clad heated steering wheel, heated front seats, a power sunroof, red brake calipers, and a set of 18-inch alloy wheels among other additions.
The premium model will also come with front and rear parking sensors and a 360-degree surround camera.
It’s also worth mentioning that the SUV will also be sold as an EV under the E5 moniker, but we’ll have to wait a little longer before we hear about its finalised specifications for our market. However, we do know that it’ll feature a 61kWh battery with 450km of range and will be able to recharge from 10 to 80 per cent in 35 minutes.
The Omoda C5 and E5 are set to arrive in New Zealand in the first half of next year, with pricing expected to be announced closer to their arrival.
