Hard to imagine why Porsche named its latest limited edition 911 the Turbo 50 years. And the run is limited to 1974 examples, for some equally strange reason.
Still, celebrating half a century of a single model is no mean feat. The 911 Turbo kicked off in 1974 and has been a halo car for the mark ever since.
The limited edition variant is another special to launch at the 2024 Monterey Car Week. Certain styling and interior elements pay homage to its forebears. The vinyl graphics on the side reference the livery of the 1973 Porsche 911 RSR Turbo concept. It was the forerunner to the original 911 Turbo. Inside, the seats and doors are finished in classic McKenzie tartan, as were some of the original 911 Turbos.
This model is painted in ‘Turbonite’ grey, as are the wheels – 911 Turbo S Exclusive Design items – and some interior finishings. The colour is specially reserved for 911 Turbos. Unique turbo badging and logos are applied to the engine cover grille and also the puddle lights. They project a turbo shape onto the ground whenever the doors are opened at night. The A-pillar, sun visors and roof lining are upholstered in perforated Race-Tex, while seats are Adaptive Sports Plus examples.
There’s also an optional Heritage Design Package. It is finished in Aventurine Green Metallic. Alternatively, customers can choose their own colour. The HDP features satin white graphics.
Pick this special by its historic Porsche crest from 1964 on the bonnet, and the Turbo 50 and Porsche logos on the rear in gold. A unique plaque above the glove compartment details the model and its build number. The dials in the instrument cluster and the Sport Chrono clock are finished in green.
The 911 Turbo 50 Years uses the outgoing 911 Turbo S engine so is based on the model introduced in 2019. It produces 478kW and 800Nm from a twin-turbo 3.7-litre flat-six engine. Kerb weight is a trim 1640kg. The sprint claim to 100 is 2.7sec (0-200 takes 8.9sec) while its top speed is a smidge under 330km/h.
Power goes to all four wheels while Porsche Traction Management and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus are standard. So too are LED matrix headlamps, a sports exhaust system, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with 10mm lower ride height, and a lift system on the front axle.
You’ll need $526,900 in your bank balance before ordering one of these specials. Delivery kicks off next year.
