This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Porsche 356 which the brand has celebrated by creating a modern interpretation of the now classic called the Vision 357.
The occasion is a bit of a special one too, considering the 356 is Porsche’s first model line which began the company on a path of creating some of the world’s most iconic sports cars.
It’s only fitting then that the Vision 357 was created with one question in mind, what would Ferry Porsche’s dream sports car look like today?
Much of the car’s looks pay tribute to the 356 like its wrap-around windscreen which seamlessly connects to the side windows thanks to black A-pillars. The glassware also looks as if it were mimicking a race helmet visor.
More familiar styling cues can be found at the back such as its sloped down rear end and central grille which features an integrated brake lamp.
Both the headlights and tail lights are hidden behind the body with a patterned array of cutouts letting the lights shine through. The door openers are also concealed by the side windows.
To show its sculpted body off, Porsche painted the car in two-tone ‘Ice Grey Metallic’ and ‘Grivola Grey Metallic’ as a throwback to popular tones of the 1950s.
This isn’t just a static model either as the Vision 357 sits on top of a 718 Cayman GT4 RS chassis, meaning that it inherits the 368kW and 449Nm 4.0-litre flat six cylinder engine.
Feeding the rear mid-mounted motor is a set of two air intakes which sit in place of the rear side windows.
As for wheels, it rolls on a set of 20-inch magnesium units which feature aerodynamic carbon fibre hubcaps and central locks.
The Porsche Vision 357 has been adorned with the “75” anniversary logo on the bonnet and side doors as if it were a race number. Other motorsport influences include quick-release bonnet latches, threaded front splitter rods, and a tow strap.
There’s no interior so to speak of as the car is solely an exterior design study which also means it won’t be made into a production vehicle.
