Ram has shown its first fully electric pick-up truck, the 1500 REV, to a public audience at the New York International Auto Show where they were given key details about the upcoming model such as its targeted 800km+ range.
We were first introduced to the new Ram in February when it was unveiled in production form, baring stark similarities to its internal combustion engine-powered counterpart.
Now we’ve been given the low down on the truck’s details which are highlighted by two large battery pack options.
First up is the 168kWh unit which has a targeted driving range of 563km while a heavy-hitting 229kWh unit is also on offer, providing up to 804km of travel on a single charge. When drained, approximately 177km can be added to both batteries after spending just 10 minutes hooked up to an 800V DC fast charger at 350kW.
The EV is also equipped with vehicle-to-load capability, offering vehicle-to-vehicle, vehicle-to-home and vehicle-to-grid bi-directional charging. An on-board power panel in the bed can provide up to 7.2kW while an available on-board power panel in the frunk provides up to 3.6kW.
As for performance, the 1500 REV is said to accelerate from 0 to just under 100km/h in 4.4 seconds thanks to its 481kW and 841Nm of torque output going to all four wheels. Its also capable of wading through 610mm of water and has a 6350kg towing and 1225kg load capacity.
Underneath the truck is a full-length belly pan which helps bring its drag coefficient down to an estimated .340, helping it achieve the aforementioned range.
Multi-link independent rear suspension has been equipped alongside air suspension with adaptive damping on all four corners which offers five different modes including entry/exit, aero, normal, and two off-road settings. New 22-inch wheels wrapped in 275/50R22 Pirelli Scorpion all-season tyres also offer little wear resistance and reduced road noise.
We touched on how the 1500 REV looks similar to its ICE counterpart rather than the concept we were shown at the start of the year but it does get some distinguishing features such as its “tuning fork” LED headlights and illuminated Ram badge.
As for the interior, occupants are greeted with elements like carbon fibre, metal and leather as well as a triple screen setup. The driver gets a 12.3-inch instrument cluster while a 14.5-inch touchscreen sits in the middle to handle infotainment needs. However, the 1500 REV also comes with a segment-first 10.25-inch passenger screen.
Other appointments found inside include a digital rear view mirror, head-up display, dual wireless device chargers and a 23-speaker Klipsch sound system making it “the most technologically advanced Ram 1500 ever.”
A hands-free active driving assistance system also supports the pick-up’s autonomous driving capabilities, allowing drivers to take their hands off the wheel while driving on an appropriate road. The truck also comes with an automated parking system too.
When it comes to storage, the lack of an engine up front mean the frunk can now carry plenty of cargo as well as the rear tray and RamBox compartments at the back.
It has been confirmed that Ram Trucks Australia will import the 1500 REV into Australia but there’s no word just yet on whether the model will make it to New Zealand.
