Ram Trucks will recall approximately 1.4 million pickups worldwide due to an issue where the tailgate may open unexpectedly.
The recall covers 2019 to 2022 model year Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks which need to be checked for faulty tailgate latches.
Most of the affected vehicles are in the US with around 1.23 million models being recalled, 120,000 in Canada, over 26,000 in Mexico, and about 27,000 in other markets around the world.
To amend the issue, dealerships will need to inspect the tailgate striker alignment and adjust it if necessary.
Ram owners can expect to be notified of the issue from January 27, 2023 with parent company Stellantis customers to make sure any loads are secured in the bed.
The recall does not affect Ram’s fitted with multi-function tailgates, the Ram 1500 Classic, and pickups that alert the driver if they have an unsecured tailgate.
As for New Zealand, no information regarding the recall is present on Waka Kotahi’s Safety Recalls Database yet but Ram owners should continue to check the website as well as contact their local dealership.
