So far, we’ve seen concepts from Nissan, Daihatsu, Honda, and Mazda in the lead-up to the Japan Mobility Show later this month, and now comes the turn of Subaru, which has just teased a sporty new concept that could bring back a familiar nameplate.
The single teaser image admittedly doesn’t give much away, with much of the Sport Mobility Concept’s coupe-like figure being hidden in the shadows.
However, that leads us to believe the concept takes some influence from the 1990s SVX coupe, also evidenced by its slim and horizontally-arranged front headlights.
Unfotunately for you petrol engine fans, there’s no flat six- or even a rumbly four-cylinder boxer engine under the bonnet as the Sport Mobility Concept has instead been equipped with a performance-oriented battery-electric drivetrain.
“This concept model expresses the enjoyment that Subaru offers in the age of electrification, embodying the pleasure of going anywhere, anytime, and driving at will in everyday to extraordinary environments,” says Subaru.
“Driving with peace of mind allows us to embark on exciting new adventures. This is a battery electric vehicle (BEV) concept that evokes the evolution of the Subaru Sport values.”
Like every other carmaker in attendance at the Japan Mobility Show this year, the six-starred brand will also have an overall theme for its stand, that being the future of mobility. So it’s safe to say its new concept is a bit of a preview for what’s to come.
As for what that will be, we don’t yet know as the concept car might be the precursor to a yet-to-be-announced model or even the next-generation BRZ.
In addition to the concept, Subaru will also display a pair of Levorg models, a new Solterra variant called the ET-HS, a special edition Forester, and the Crosstrek Limited.
The Subaru Sport Mobility Concept will be revealed in full at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 on October 26 and will be on display until the event wraps up on November 5.
