Amongst the many electric offerings at the Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre’s Take Charge EV Expo last weekend was the Omoda E5 EX. It is now on sale for a limited time at $44,990, a $10k discount on the usual RRP. Also on sale is the Omoda E5 BX model, down $7000 to $40,990.
The sale price of the two Omoda E5s makes them amongst the most affordable electric cars in the New Zealand new car market currently.
The E5 is Omoda Jaecoo’s first fully electric model available in New Zealand. Both EX and BX variants have a 61kWh lithium iron-phosphate battery (LFP), offering a WLTP range of 430km. The battery pack can be fast charged from 30 to 80 per cent in half an hour.
Take Charge EV Expo allowed the public to get up close and personal with the E5 models, checking them out first hand. There were over 20 other electric vehicles on display as well at the Nov 23-24 event.
EVs are gradually catching on in New Zealand. Between 2017 and October 2024, 78,000 EVs have been sold here, and over 34,000 PHEVs. There are also said to be 1248 public chargers across the country.
