Trackhouse Racing owner, Justin Marks, is hoping his rookie star, Shane van Gisbergen (SVG), will be able to partake in the 2026 Indianapolis 500.
He is planning a Trackhouse one-off assault on one of the sport’s elite crowns next year. And Marks believes SVG is the man for the job.
“I don’t think that Trackhouse will ever be complete without us competing in the world’s greatest open-wheel race” said Marks.
He founded Trackhouse in 2021 with his fellow co-owner Armando Christian Perez aka Pitbull, a rapper. In a few short years Marks has turned Trackhouse into one of the most dynamic race teams in the world.
This year the team is fielding three cars in the NASCAR Cup series. Full-time series rookie van Gisbergen is joining incumbents Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez. And he is also making some starts in the second-tier XFinity series.
Moreover, SvG will drive a Trackhouse-entered Chevrolet Corvette GT3 in IMSA’s Daytona 24-Hour sports car classic at the end of January. He is sharing driving duties with fellow Kiwi race star Scott McLaughlin. A Le Mans start is also a possibility.
But it’s the Indy 500 that Marks has his sights set on. “I was so moved and so captivated by the Indianapolis 500, and it was really that moment that I knew that the racetrack was going to be home for me, in some capacity, my entire life,” Marks said.
Marks has already tapped the Indy 500 knowledge banks to determine what it takes to compete at the Brickyard.
Of his chosen driver, SVG, Marks says “I’ve never seen a driver learn so fast.” He is learning about oval racing very quickly, according to Marks.
If it happens, van Gisbergen will line up against his ex-Supercars rival Scott McLaughlin, who has already won IndyCar races for Roger Penske.
Marks believes SVG is the driver who can make his Indy 500 dream come true.
