There’s a bit of an uproar amongst recent Tesla buyers in China at the moment who have begun to protest the American carmaker’s decision to cut the price of its cars.
Both the Model 3 and Model Y had their prices dropped last week due to disappointing sales figures in 2022.
Approximately 55,796 Teslas were delivered in China in December which is 44 per cent less than the month prior according to Fox Business.
To generate more sales, Tesla dropped the price of the Model 3 from $NZ61,000 to around $NZ53,000 while the Model Y’s price was lowered from $NZ66,000 to $NZ60,000.
However, the move to attract more customers has somewhat backfired after buyers who missed out on the discount became so angry that they decided to storm a Tesla store in protest.
Anas Alhajji on Twitter posted a video showing what seems to be hundreds of people flooding the dealership demanding that the carmaker should pay them the difference of the discount they missed out on.
“Protesters who bought Teslas stormed a Tesla store in China after price cuts demanding a refund of the price difference,” he said.
While there are no doubt some unhappy customers among that bunch, other prospective buyers who have yet to take the plunge now have the opportunity to buy a Tesla at their most affordable price yet.
As for Tesla itself, InsideEVs reports that the company is already seeing increased demand with delivery times taking a few weeks longer than they previously were.
