The Tesla Roadster is finally set to finally enter production next year, bringing with it performance never before seen on the road. That’s at least according to the carmaker’s CEO, Elon Musk.
We first laid eyes on the car in concept form some six years ago now, but the project was shelved so the company could focus on other projects like the Cybertruck.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Musk told followers: “Tonight, we radically increased the design goals for the new Tesla Roadster. There will never be another car like this, if you could even call it a car.”
“Production design complete and unveil end of year, aiming to ship next year,” the billionaire added in a seperate Tweet.
“I think it has a shot at being the most mind-blowing product demo of all time.”
Speaking of minds being blown, while the Roadster concept claims it can sprint from 0 to 60mph (97km/h) in 1.9 seconds, Musk says the production model will be able to do it in under a second.
If the new model’s promised performance is to be taken as gospel, that would make it far quicker than electric hypercars such as the Rimac Nevera and Pininfarina Battista.
The price? When the Roadster concept was first revealed, Tesla said it would cost $250,000 ($NZ410,000), which we’d say is pretty good bang for buck considering its aforementioned rivals are in the multi-million dollar price range. However, this is likely subject to change come the car’s launch next year.
