A new era of the world-renowned Range Rover is upon us, with more details today being released about the upcoming ‘Electric’ model. And just so you know, it’ll offer the same scintillating performance as the V8.
While power and torque figures have yet to be revealed for the first-ever electric Range, we gather they’ll match if not exceed the flagship eight-cylinder SV’s 474kW and 750Nm output. That’s at least if the EV wants to eclipse the petrol-powered model’s 0 to 100km/h acceleration time of 3.6 seconds.
Its performance isn’t just limited to the road though, as the Electric will also feature the same all-terrain capability that the brand has been known for since the first model was released in 1970. Prototype testing has already seen the EV go up against temperatures ranging from -40C to 50C and wade through 850mm deep water.
So it’ll be quick and capable, but the British carmaker also says the new model is the quietest and “most refined” vehicle it has ever created.
This is also probably one of the most technically advanced Range Rovers ever to be made, as the brand also mentioned that it has filed more patents for the Electric than any other model before. To give you a taste, it boasts an 800V electric architecture that allows the vehicle to fast recharge using public networks.
Little has been shown of the its exterior other than a handful of teaser shots which include a familiar-looking taillight, a charge port, and an ‘EV’ wheel centre cap.
Physical prototype testing is still underway ahead of next year’s launch of the Range Rover Electric. For the time being, Kiwis can join the waiting list for the model on the local arm of the brand’s website.
