The beginning of the end is here, with Chevrolet revealing the last iteration of the iconic Camaro, due to be sent off at the end of the 2024 model year.
Earlier this year, the American carmaker announced that the sixth generation model will be its last, at least in muscle car form. To wave goodbye, Chevrolet will release a limited run of the Camaro Collector’s Editions based on the LT/RS, LT1, SS and ZL1 trims in the United States.
Chevrolet has gone back to its roots with the special edition, finishing each one in a Panther Black paint scheme. For those that don’t know, Panther is of course the original code name for the program that birthed the Camaro in the 1960s.
The LT/RS, LT1 and SS Collector’s Editions will receive a metallic finish, along with satin black stripes, 20-inch satin black or Polished Forged Wheels, as well as the front splitter from the 1LE and rear spoiler from the ZL1.
As for the ZL1 Collector’s Edition, this model will be limited to 350 units and finished in Panther Black Matte with a black metallic stripe alongside some red brake calipers. It also gets the front splitter and rear wing from ZL1 1LE. Adding to the exclusivity inside is a serialised steering wheel badge.
ZL1 customers will also receive a bespoke watch with an inscribed serial number that matches the number on their vehicle’s steering wheel badge.
All Collector’s Editions will come with special floor mats, as well as a panther integrated into the “R” on each fender and on the steering wheel badge.
The standard 2024 Camaro will be offered in both coupe and convertible form, and in LT, LT1, SS and ZL1 trims. Gone is the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine for 2024, with the only two engines available being the 3.6-litre V6 in the LT and the 6.2-litre V8 in the LT1 and SS. A supercharged 6.2-litre V8 will be offered in the ZL1.
As for the future of the Camaro nameplate, it’s understood that Chevrolet will create a sub-brand of the same name that it will sell electric vehicles under.
“While we are not announcing an immediate successor today, rest assured, this is not the end of Camaro’s story,” said Scott Bell, Vice President of Global Chevrolet, earlier this year.
The lineup of Chevrolet Camaro Collector’s Editions will be available from late 2023 with production of the model wrapping up for good in January 2024.
