As far as Mercedes-AMG production cars go, the GT Black Series is the creme of the crop, and it’s for this reason that they tend to fetch a pretty penny. One such car recently popped up on TradeMe and it’s safe to say that the asking price certainly had us wide-eyed.
The 2022 model year supercar was listed by Mercedes-Benz Auckland in Newmarket just over a month ago for $1,249,990, just over the average price of a house in New Zealand’s biggest city.
When the model was launched here in 2020, it was priced at $707,000, not including on-road costs. The reason for such a big markup on the car currently for sale likely comes down to its rarity, of which just 1700 GT Black Series were ever produced. Throw in the fact that it’s only driven 350km and you’ve got yourself quite the investment.
Stuffed under the bonnet of the Affalterbach-built beast is a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 that makes 537kW and 800Nm of torque, enough to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 3.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 323km/h.
Introduce it to some corners and you’ll no doubt have your organs rearranged by its grip, courtesy of the additional aerodynamic components that you won’t find on the standard car including a fixed twin carbon fibre rear wing at the rear.
Thanks to its rather racey appointments, the Black Series became the fastest production car to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 2020 with a time of 6:43.61. Since then, only two cars have bested the GT’s time, those being the Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR and the current title holder, the Mercedes-AMG One.
While this car’s next owner probably won’t be setting any lap records, they can rest assured that it’s still equipped to do so thanks to a set of carbon ceramic brake discs, a titanium roll bar, four-point safety harnesses, carbon fibre bucket seats, and adjustable dampers. There’s also a stainless steel exhaust and an eleven-speaker Burmester sound system to listen to as well.
As of writing, the TradeMe Motors listing for this 2022 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series currently has 41,834 views and is on 613 potential buyers’ watchlists.
