Waka Kotahi has announced it will be putting toll road prices up for three different routes from the start of July this year.
The price increases apply to the Northern Gateway in Auckland (SH1), Tauranga Eastern Link (SH2), and Takitimu Drive in Tauranga (SH29).
Tolls for for cars, bikes and light commercial vehicles will go up by 20 cents, while trucks, buses and other heavy vehicles will have to pay an extra 40 cents.
The higher prices will come into effect on July 1 2023 with the transport agency saying this is the first time toll prices have increased in over four years with the last adjustments being made in March 2019.
“The legislation enabling road tolling in New Zealand allows for tolls to be adjusted annually in line with increases in the Consumer Price Index (CPI),” states Waka Kotahi.
It also mentions that toll road prices have been kept below average CPI over the period since it last increased them.
Revenue collected from the tolls is spent on repaying debt and maintaining the respective road they are applied to.
